What is Advent?

The season of Advent spans the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. While Advent is certainly a time of celebration and anticipation of Christ’s birth, it is more than that. During these weeks before Christmas, Christians look back upon Jesus’ first coming with celebration while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation of his second coming, when he will return for His people.

In the midst of holiday celebrations, last minute shopping, bright lights and over-the-top decorations, the Advent message calls us as Christians to keep looking for where God is still working in the world today. We need to check ourselves to make sure we are ready to join Him in His work. During advent, Christians reflect on the violence and evil that is still in the world and our need for God to make things right. We also recognize our own sinfulness and need for grace, which leads us to pray for the Holy Spirit to renew his work in changing us more and more to be like Jesus.

Weekly Grace Family Advent Moment

The Life Stages team has created weekly advent videos for you, our Grace family both young and old, to slow down, reflect and focus on the true meaning of the season. We’ll be posting these videos every Tuesday morning at 10 AM on our social media channels. Check them out at that time or anytime after during the week!

These videos do compliment our Family Advent Kits that were distributed but can also be viewed without the kit. As well, we’ve created this for our entire Grace family, not just families with young kids.

We hope you’ll watch each week and take a moment to reflect and focus on the true meaning of the season…the birth of our Savior!
